Efferon expands to new markets with Bertossi partnership

This April, Efferon launched its newest partnership with Bertossi, making the Efferon LPS blood purification cartridge available in Croatia, Slovenia, and Cyprus. Bertossi is a Cypriot company established in 1991, specializing in the delivery of the highest-quality products and services in the medical field.

The partnership was first introduced at the 3rd International Conference on Extracorporeal Organ Support, 23-26 April in Dubrovnik. This conference is a key event in the field of intensive care and extracorporeal therapies, bringing together leading experts from around the world. It highlights the latest innovations in extracorporeal organ support and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration among healthcare professionals.

Efferon contributed to the program with two talks.

Professor Zsolt Molnár gave a talk named “Hemoadsorption in endotoxin-induced septic shock,” emphasizing the clinical importance of targeting both endotoxins and cytokines, the key inflammatory mediators in sepsis. His lecture highlighted the role of gut permeability and the inevitable translocation of gut-derived endotoxin in sepsis progression.

Ivan Bessonov, tech co-founder of Efferon, gave a talk titled “Three generations of hemoadsorption technology: where are we now?”, discussing how the structure and properties of polymeric adsorbents directly influence the effectiveness of cytokine and endotoxin removal. He introduced Efferon LPS’s innovative polymer capable of selective adsorption of lipopolysaccharides via surface-immobilized ligand and non-selective adsorption of cytokines and cell debris via intrinsic porosity. This novel hemoadsorption cartridge is approved in the EU for sepsis treatment under MDR regulation.

We thank Professor Vedran Premuzic of the organising committee for the energising event and look forward to bringing advanced therapy across the Adriatic region and beyond.
